In the house that grandfather Eilert built after WW2, in the premesis of his furniture store at Nesgata 4 in Åndalsnes you will now find 4 new rental rooms - bright, warm and each with its own name taken from grandfather Eilert's furniture workshop: here you will find Høvelen ( the Plane ), Tvinga ( the Clamp ) , Saga ( the Saw ) and Hammeren ( the Hammer ). The rooms are designed to give you peace and rest, good sleep, comfort - and being able to work. This should be a place where you can both sleep well and get things done.
With simple means and tools, grandfather Eilert transformed materials into beautiful furniture that he sold in the store. Several of his furniture can still be found in use in the rooms we rent out, some more than 100 years old.
We hope that our rooms will be good and simple tools for our guests who are looking for adventurous experiences in Romsdalen, and who need to rest and sleep in a good bed, enjoy their own toilet and a nice shower - and lightning-fast broadband to gather strength for new adventures the next day.
Guests staying in our rooms have access to a shared kitchen with good equipment to be able to prepare simple meals. If you would like to enjoy the Grand Hotel's delicious breakfast buffet, we have made an agreement that our guests can buy and eat breakfast there.
At the top of the building we offer 2 small loft apartments with their own bedroom, private bathroom, living room and kitchenette. Suitable for those who can handle stairs and who will be staying with us for a few days. Bakkebo Rampestreken and Bakkebo Trollstigen have good beds, simple furniture in an older style, a TV and plenty of space.
In the laundry room in the basement there are two washing machines and a dryer that all our guests can use.

Bakkebo Høvelen - The Plane
In the old days, the plane was a tool for patient shaping – layer by layer, until the wood fit perfectly.
This room carries its name with pride. Here, you can breathe out, sleep well, and work with focus – a place for fine-tuning, both thoughts and plans.
This is the largest room on 1st floor, spacious with private entrance from outside and extra pillows.

Bakkebo Rampestreken
Small apartment at the top with a separate bedroom, balcony, bathroom, kitchen, and living room. We've tried to make it easy and comfortable for you to be our guest here!
Bakkebo Rampestreken is located on the 2nd floor with no elevator. We recommend booking the rooms Bakkebo Høvelen, Bakkebo Tvinga, Bakkebo Saga, or Bakkebo Verktøykassa if you have difficulty climbing stairs.
The building dates back to 1946, but the rooms have been upgraded in recent years. They are well insulated, have Velux skylights, comfortable beds, and a lovely shower. Fast fiber internet. The furniture is kept in an old-fashioned style, and some pieces were made by Grandpa Eilert.

Bakkebo Trollstigen
Small apartment at the top with a separate bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living room. We've tried to let you have a pleasant stay here while visiting Romsdalen.
Bakkebo Trollstigen is located on the 2nd floor with no elevator. We recommend booking Bakkebo Høvelen, Bakkebo Tvinga, Bakkebo Saga, or Bakkebo Verktøykassa if you have difficulty climbing stairs.
